Creative Capital: Georges Doriot and the Birth of Venture Capital by Spencer E. Ante is an interesting book on the idea of venture capital that encouraged experimentation + the eventual transformation of capital markets + the impact.
I think venture capitalists are in a way matchmakers of the modern economy.
